Here at experiencehost.com, we’re all about creating unforgettable events. But sometimes, the smartest thing a host can do is take a step back and let the experts handle the food.
The Type A Host in Me
I’ll be the first to admit it—I’m sometimes my own worst enemy. I want to cook everything on the menu. I picture my guests being impressed by the fact that every single dish was handcrafted by me. And honestly? That’s part of who I am. Cooking and curating menus is something I love.
But there are moments when being a great host isn’t about doing it all—it’s about knowing when to outsource.
When to Let the Experts Step In
Take theme parties for example. If I’m hosting a Chinese New Year celebration, I could spend days researching recipes and shopping for specialty ingredients. But would the results measure up to the flavors from a local Chinese restaurant? Probably not. And more importantly, stressing over the menu could drain the fun out of the event.
The same goes for my Greek parties. I’ve cooked full Greek spreads before, but honestly, my favorite local Greek restaurant does it better—and it doesn’t cost more than shopping and cooking everything myself. Instead of stressing over the kitchen, I get to focus on the music, the décor, and the vibe that make the night special.
Elevate, Don’t Overcomplicate
Here’s my golden rule: if you’re ordering catering, never serve it in foil trays or plastic containers. Transfer the food into beautiful dishes and style the table as though you cooked it yourself.
Beautiful presentation turns takeout into a celebration.
Guests don’t need to know you didn’t spend three days braising lamb or rolling dumplings. What they will notice is the thoughtful presentation, the atmosphere you created, and the way you made them feel.
The True Art of Hosting
Hosting isn’t about proving how much you can juggle. It’s about creating a memorable experience. Sometimes that means cooking every dish with love. Other times, it means letting the professionals handle the food while you elevate the details.
Because here at experiencehost.com, we believe unforgettable events aren’t about shortcuts—they’re about making the most of your resources and creating something beautiful.
