Well, today is the day — Easter Sunday. I’m sure many of you are hosting family and friends, gathering around tables filled with food, conversation, and meaningful connection. Holidays like this can mean different things to different people. Whether Easter is rooted in religious tradition for you or simply a time to pause and enjoy the people you love, it always seems to bring us together.
This year, my partner and I hosted Easter for his side of the family and friends last night, and today will be spent with my family. A full weekend of connection — exactly the kind of rhythm I love.
Skipping the Turkey and Ham (Yes, Really)
While many Easter menus revolve around turkey or spiral ham, I went straight for one of my most reliable crowd-pleasers: smoked picnic pork shoulder.
It has never failed me.
Whether you:
place it in a large pot and simmer on the stovetop for about 3 hours, or cook it in a slow cooker on low for about 8 hours,
…it requires almost no effort. No fussing, no constant checking, no complicated preparation. It simply becomes tender, flavourful, and falls right off the bone. It’s never dry, and it scales beautifully for larger groups — making it one of my go-to mains when I want something comforting, impressive, and low stress.
And honestly, when hosting, having at least one reliable dish makes everything feel calmer.
The Detail I Never Skip: Decor
While I spent many hours preparing the food, there is one detail I never overlook: the decor.
Decor creates atmosphere. It sets the tone before guests even taste the first bite. It tells people they are somewhere intentional — somewhere cared for.
Easter gives me the perfect excuse to bring pink into the house for a few weeks each year (much to my partner’s chagrin). I am unapologetically a pink person. Soft blush tones, florals, candles, and light textures instantly create a welcoming spring environment that feels fresh, warm, and celebratory.
Sometimes the decor doesn’t need to be elaborate — just thoughtful.
A simple table can feel special with:
fresh flowers soft pastel linens light candles small seasonal accents a cohesive colour palette
It’s never about perfection — it’s about creating a feeling.
However You’re Spending Today
Whether you are hosting, attending a gathering, or simply enjoying a quiet long weekend, I hope your Easter includes moments of connection, comfort, and maybe something delicious.
Wishing you a beautiful long weekend filled with meaningful moments and a home that feels welcoming — however that looks for you.
Happy Easter,
Andrea
