Why I Always Send a Party Invitation

I’m a big believer that a good party starts before the first guest walks in the door. For me, that means sending an invitation.

When I plan an event—whether it’s at home or in the workplace—it’s not about making it feel overly formal. It’s about making sure people have the information they need to show up and enjoy themselves.

I have a full-time job, I love hosting, and my schedule doesn’t always leave me with the bandwidth to answer texts and emails right away. That’s why I make it simple: I create a party invitation.

My go-to tool is Canva. (If you’ve never used it, it’s an easy online design platform.) I use the paid version for work, but the free version is more than enough if you’re just designing for personal events.

Here’s what I always include in my invitations:

  • Date & time – no confusion, no double-checking.
  • Location – so it’s clear and accessible.
  • Theme or dress code – if there’s one, people know what to expect.
  • What to bring (only if needed) – for example, if it’s a potluck or BYOB, that’s noted upfront.

These days, most people only receive a formal invitation for milestone events like weddings or big birthdays. By sending one for any kind of gathering, you instantly set your event apart. It elevates the experience from the very first touchpoint—and that’s what I’m all about: creating not just a party, but an experience.

I don’t print and mail my invitations. I simply save the design as an image and send it by email or text. That way, guests always have the details in one place—ready when they need them.

Because here’s the thing: an invitation doesn’t just share logistics. It sets the tone. It signals to your guests that there’s something special to look forward to, whether it’s a cozy dinner, a themed party, or a workplace celebration.

For me, creating an invitation is a small step that makes a big difference. It keeps everyone in the loop, saves time, and adds that extra touch of excitement before the party even begins.

And that’s exactly what The Experience Host is here for—helping you take gatherings from simple get-togethers to memorable experiences.
