Ghosts, Ghouls, and… the Blue Jays?

halloween house party with toronto blue jays fans

After weeks of planning, prepping, and decorating, my long-anticipated Halloween party finally arrived — and while I’d call it semi-successful, it definitely came with some unexpected twists.

The decorations.

Honestly, I was thrilled with how they turned out. They took me about a week to put up, but it was worth every ladder climb and every piece of fake cobweb. The house looked perfectly spooky — eerie lighting, creepy corners, and all the moody details that make Halloween feel magical. If nothing else, the atmosphere was on point.

The food.

I provided most of it, and everyone brought a little something. Some platters were completely decimated, others were eaten but not entirely — which is perfectly fine. It’s actually nice to have a few leftovers sometimes! Overall, the food got a good dent, which is a win in my book.

The vibe.

What I didn’t plan for — and truly, how could I have known? — was that the Toronto Blue Jays would make it to the World Series. And wouldn’t you know it, Game 2 landed on the exact same night as my Halloween party.

If I hadn’t played the game, I think my guest list would have dropped to zero. The crowd was full of die-hard Jays fans, and once the TV came on, my spooky soirée turned into a three-hour baseball viewing event.

Here’s the kicker: the Jays didn’t win. Instead of adding energy to the party, it meant most people were ready to go home once the game ended. My vision of a lively, drink-and-mingle Halloween vibe never really materialized.

Don’t get me wrong — people still had fun. There were laughs, great costumes, and a few special moments that made it all worthwhile. I got to catch up with two friends I hadn’t seen since March, and I surprised one friend (whose birthday is coming up soon) with a cute pumpkin cake. Seeing her face light up made the whole evening worth it.

Even though the night didn’t unfold exactly as I’d pictured it, I still got to host, share good food, and make memories — baseball and all.

So yes, it was a success, just not the one I imagined. Sometimes, you’ve just gotta roll with it.
